Our Impact for National Recycling Day 2023

What would a waste-free world look like?

Nobody can be certain, but at the Audia® Group of Companies, we're confident we know what a plastic-conscious world would look like. It's the sustainable future that we're actively pursuing because although single-use may be convenient for our everyday lives, it's not sustainable for our earth.

Reduce, Reuse, and always Recycle

National Recycling Day, also known as America Recycles Day, is celebrated to promote continued education and advocacy about recycling, and consumer consumption habits. Celebrating National Recycling Day aligns with the sustainability pillar of Audia's values; where we strengthen our relationships with our customers, suppliers, and co-workers through sustainable initiatives. There's a difference between behavior and action. We're consciously changing our behavior for the better and taking action to change unsustainable habits, simply because it’s the right thing to do.

AudiaFlex™ is ISCC certified; providing a circular, and sustainable TPE solution

Circularity is one of these actions. Our AudiaFlex™ family of sustainable thermoplastic elastomers contains ISCC-certified products linked to circular feedstocks. Circular feedstocks, such as mixed plastic waste, are materials of non-biological origin derived from mechanical or chemical recycling. AudiaFlex™ is made of customizable grades of circular TPE produced from either post-consumer, post-industrial, bio-based, or marine-based sources. AudiaFlex™ materials mirror the properties of most virgin TPEs and deliver comparable capabilities in terms of haptics, color, adhesion, and durometer. They can compete in high-performance applications with conventional TPEs, TPVs, and TPU chemistries in personal care, consumer household, consumer electronics, automotive, and toys.

“With ISCC PLUS Certification of the AudiaFlex™ product line, we’re demonstrating the ability of AudiaFlex™ to help solve the plastic waste problem,” said Jevons Yu, General Manager of Asia for Audia Elastomers. “Recycled plastics are used in our formulas, and this reduces the dependency on fossil fuels. Also, by using bio-based plastics in our formulas, we support the transition to a circular economy and bioeconomy by using the ISCC physical segregation and mass balance approach.” Yu also mentions that this certification compliments the existing sustainability certificate portfolio, covering new potential bio-based market segments and their requirements.

“The AudiaFlex™ product line is a reflection of Audia’s continuous commitment to sustainable materials,” said Frank Axelrod, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Audia Elastomers. “Credibility is key to ensuring our customers know how their material is sourced, permitting them to confidently achieve their sustainability goals and objectives. This verification gives our customers transparency into our sustainable supply chain and the ability to market their products as made with certified sustainable content.”

Our recycling impact

Recycling and reusing waste materials is also foundational in our manufacturing processes and part of our everyday lives. In 2022 our teams recycled more than 4 MM lbs of waste materials that were bound for landfills. Our own internal processes consumed more than 10X that amount in our manufacturing processes. These efforts go a long way to reduce the amount of waste sent to a landfill, and as a result, significantly reduce the overall carbon footprint of our business. Reduction of our carbon footprint is a key component of our decarbonization strategy.

Recycling and the future

It's our planet, and we’re responsible for preserving its resources. We passionately drive towards the Audia Mission of building a more sustainable future with our businesses, customers, employees, and communities. Through innovation, collaboration, and dedication we’re working together to implement sustainable initiatives and Grasp What's Possible™ for our future.
